College Musical

The College has a proud history of producing high quality stage musicals. The La Valla Centre stage is transformed into a professional theatre set, showcasing its full potential. The biannual musical production is a collaboration of students, past and present, staff, parents and extended community. The culmination of which is an event that promotes friendship and bonding to transcend year group barriers. Students are encouraged to perform both on and behind the stage to gain valuable experiences in working as a team, leadership and problem solving. Students from years 7 to 11, work alongside experienced professionals and gain insight into various roles and opportunities in the Entertainment Industry and the commitment and effort required to produce a large-scale production.

Hairspray, 2017 College Musical

Rehearsals for the 2017 production of Hairspray have begun! Our dedicated and talented cast is working hard and are on track to perform in June this year. Tickets will go on sale in Term 2, 2017.

Back Stage Crew Students who are interested in working back stage can fill in an application form, which will be available soon from the Performing Arts Noticeboard. Opportunities include stagehand, make-up crew, painting and building props and sets, and wardrobe.
Musical Band

Students interested in becoming part of the band for the musical should speak to Ms Andrews about upcoming opportunities.

Vocal Ensemble

The vocal ensemble focuses on small groups of singers performing a range of repertoire. The students are provided with a variety of vocal challenges that they engage in during the year to improve their performance skills. Performance opportunities include assemblies, liturgies, award ceremonies and performance nights.

Concert Band

This ensemble caters for instrumentalists who want to develop their skills and gain experience in a variety of performance opportunities both in school and representing the College.

Rock Band Ensembles

Caters for students in all year groups who can perform on an instrument and wish to form their own rock band. These groups are self-directed and guided by Mr Heffernan. All singers and instrumentalists are welcome to participate in a fun environment that engages in a range of rock styles and performance opportunities.

Music Instrumental Tuition

This program caters for students wishing to improve their skills on a particular instrument. Lessons occur during class time for half an hour once a week on a rotating schedule. Fees are paid to the instrumental tutor who will invoice you at the commencement of each term. Tuition lessons are currently available on the following instruments: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Voice, Drums, Piano/Keyboard, Flutes, Saxophone and Clarinet.

Drama Club

This ensemble is designed for students in Years 7 and 8. Students are provided with an opportunity to enhance and develop their confidence and performance skills in a fund and stimulating environment.

Theatre Company

Catering to students with an interest and talent in acting, the Theatre Company provides the opportunity to participate in the performance of a play production. In 2016, the company performed The Tempest ​to a sold out audience in the first ever, theatrical performance in the La Valla Theatre space.

Production

In keeping with the Stage 6 Preliminary Syllabus for Drama, the Year 11 students engage in developing acting skills, which are showcased in the performance of a full-length play. Staged in the Drama Green Room space, the classroom demonstrates its ability to transform from a dedicated Drama classroom to a working performance space.
